Chunk Of Funk

Chunk of Funk is a funk band made up of year 10-12 pupils from Banbridge Academy under the supervision of Richie Parton. The band was initially an opportunity for pupils from Banbridge School of Music to get a chance to improvise together and to use some of the skills that they were learning on their individual instruments. Whilst rehearsing in the Academy on Thursday afternoons, the sound carried through the school and the band soon found itself in great demand to play at events on the school calendar. Since then, the band has jumped at every opportunity to play and is always looking for new repertoire and audiences. The band participated in the Banbridge Buskfest 2010 and was delighted to win the Spirit of the Buskfest award. They raised £500 for the charity Tiny Life and, as a result of their performance, they were asked to play at a number of events both locally and across Northern Ireland, including in Ikea, Belfast for Christmas shoppers! The band have played locally at events such as Magherally Church Fete, Picnic in the Park in Dromore and at school concerts. Most recently they enjoyed a very successful performance of Olly Murs “Dance with me Tonight”. Check out my Photo Albums for pictures!

On the morning of the Buskfest, Saturday 19th June 2010, Chunk of Funk were broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster, Your Place and Mine. Have a listen to the show.
